Container green


The concept for Containerville was born out of the desire to make a collective workspace in a former Victorian Era corner of East London. It was an experiment – and it has paid dividends. The brief: provide affordable, flexible, easy-to-move-into workspaces. The solution: pre-loved shipping containers.

  • Rejuvenated former derelict area of Shoreditch Gas Works by up-cycling shipping containers

  • Affordable: a unit is 37% cheaper than Stratford (the cheapest zone in inner London)

  • Development always close to 100% occupancy: some clients leaving only to find larger space thanks to initial success

  • Focused on supporting ACES = Authentic, Connected, Entrepreneurial, Supportive businesses

  • Approx. 350 jobs created by the companies at Containerville: sustaining other jobs in the area


🥦 Wellbeing

  • Ready-to-use: each container is 285 sq ft, comfortably fitting 6 desks – fully equipped with high speed Wi-Fi, double glazing, heating, electricity + kitchen unit

  • Blank canvas: each company has control to equip + decorate their space to reflect unique culture + business needs

  • Local workers: 58% of tenants cycle or walk to work – compared with 18% in inner London

  • Part of a collaborative community of businesses on a similar journey: dedicated community support team + regular events


🎈Bonus feature

SMEs are the backbone of any healthy economy. They drive growth, provide employment, open new markets. As of 2022, there were 5.5 million UK private sector businesses: 5.47 million of these were small businesses (0-49 employees) = 99.45%. The success of Containerville has fuelled an ambition to expand and to establish similar sites internationally.
